It’s back to school season again! Time to put away the flip-flops and head over to Staples!

You can just feel the cringe come on as you think about it, huh? Every year at this time, my phone starts ringing and the appointment requests come flooding in. And every year there are so many important topics that come up:

  • What if my depression comes back?”
  • “I’m overwhelmed with dread!”
  • “My parents want me to do this, but I’m more interested in that.”
  • “I have no idea what it’s going to be like, or what I want to major in!”
  • “I don’t know anyone and it’s going to be soo awkward!”

There’s never enough time to get the word out about skills to practice beyond my therapy office.

Building A Tribe for Mastering Adulthood

I’ve long been a believer that our mental health should be as obvious of a priority as our physical health. That means it needs to be part of our every day lives, something we can share with others, and get (and give) the support needed.

So this year, we’re getting innovative at Mindful-Mastery! Our aim is to get the skills and tools for Mastering Adulthood out to whoever is interested in learning more about themselves, human nature, and how to become an Emotional Grown-up.

Mastering Back to School

Since starting a whole new academic year can be a nightmare, we’re launching a free MASTERING ADULTHOOD: Book Club to support you! Yes FREE! The only cost to you is your willingness. In the group we’ll cover all the chapters and topics in my book: Mastering Adulthood: Go Beyond Adulting to Become an Emotional Grown-Up. MASTERING ADULTHOOD: Back to School Book Club

We’ll be covering topics such as:

  • Universal You: Why we do the things we do
  • Unique You: How your unique history and predispositions create certain experiences in your life.
  • Skillful You: The specific practices you need to more effectively work with your,
    • Emotions
    • Thoughts
    • Action impulses
    • Relationships!
  • Successful You: An action plan to stay committed to the YOU you wanna be, skillfully.

Every week, I’ll be live casting to the group; to hear your questions, and help you master your skills!

Getting the Support You Need: Your Mental Health Community

I wrote Mastering Adulthood (and the accompanying skills videos) as step one in getting the skills from therapy rooms to out into the world (for a heck of a lot cheaper!). But I also know that it’s a really high bar to work on the practices alone.

We need an open platform that starts to shift the way we relate to our emotions, vulnerability, and our ideas of what therapy is: We need community. So we’re building one… Wanna join us?

How to Join Us. We’ll be launching a private Facebook group from the Mindful-Mastery page. It’s super simple to join. You can find and ask to join the group here. All you have to do is answer the admin questions, and your in!

What to Expect. While we’ve put a lot of work into preparing for this group, this is your group. So, while we have an agenda, we also really want to hear what’s working (and not working) for you. We’ll be going through a chapter each week, reviewing questions, trouble shooting any difficulties, and setting you up to practice in the week to come.

When We’ll be Meeting. Beginning September 16th, we’ll be meeting, via Facebook Live, every Monday at 1:00 pm PST for about an hour. We’ll continue until we get to the end of the book! (About 12 weeks, with breaks for holidays.)

What if I Miss a Live Cast? While you’ll get the most out of our group by sitting in on the live casts, we have a plan in case you miss! We’ll be editing and posting highlights and key learning points later in the week.

Meet the Team!

To keep things rolling, (and help me connect better to your needs) we have a new addition helping us cover all bases. I’m pleased to introduce to you the latest additions to our Mindful-Mastery team: Kiyana Eshai, our wellness coordinator.

Kiyana is a full-fledged psychology graduate, from UCSB, she will be monitoring questions and managing the social media posts. She will also be consolidating the topics from each week’s meetings, and applying her writing minor into the upcoming Mindful-Mastery Skills blog posts!

Together, we’ll do our best to make sure we meet the needs of the group the best we can. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to send me a message via our ‘reach out’ page. We hope to see you there!
